THE WOMAN
Karen Tappin (Pink Dress, Dope Afro) is an entrepreneur and educator. She is one of the billion-dollar beauty industry’s rising stars. In just seven short years, Karen, the founder and proprietor of Karen’s Body Beautiful, has transformed her organic body care line from a modest home-based business to a blossoming enterprise with robust internet sales, a luxurious store and a chic spa. Karen developed recipes for a full spa line made from all natural ingredients, including lotions, soaps, scrubs, oils, candles and bath salts. Karen’s products were immediately a hit-so successful in fact that Karen’s Body Beautiful was officially launched in November 2003. Karen’s first store in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn opened three months later. Karen then created an all-natural hair care collection that quickly developed a cult following. The business grew at a rapid clip and Karen installed a kitchen in the store to make her products, which streamlined the production process, increased capacity and drew interested bystanders from the street, who often became customers. And after years of managing her successful spa Karen has shut it’s doors to focus on a bigger/ national picture. Karen’s Body Beautiful products are now available at select Target Stores!
We couldn’t be happier for you and wish you nothing but success Karen! Thank you for always supporting those from Around The Way!

I’m going off to the UK (I live in Argentina)to move with my boyfriend. I’m really scared and really sad of leaving my family behind, but I’m trying really hard to choose my own life for a change. *fingers crossed*
This year I am going to take care of myself and claim my body back.
Expanding my customer base, researching grant opportunities, and jump starting my businesses for 2013.
My goal in 2013 is to really follow my passion for cooking and go to culinary school so that i can live a life that i love while creating my own legacy.
This year, I am looking to finally leave my current dead-end job for one with more opportunities to offer. Along with that new job, buy a car that will actually be MINE and mine alone. Also, joined a gym to get back on track with my health as I fell way off track once Autumn came around last year.
I’m trying my dim dam darndest to get into a Psych grad program by the end of the year. Meaning GRE studying, serious networking, and no time wasting in preparation. I also plan on taking my music more seriously as a side gig.
This year will be my last year of Graduate School, I will have received my Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration by the age of 23. I have also started my own business (on the campus of Hampton University) in which I help others with their businesses (e.g. writing a business plan, applying for small business grants, promoting and marketing, obtaining a sole-proprietorship, partnership or LCC status etc.) I currently volunteer with public school students in the Hampton Roads area tutoring and mentoring young girls. In 2013, I have vowed to continue in all these endeavors, to strengthen my relationship with God and my family, to take better care of myself (physically, mentally and spiritually), to become financially independent, and to start my career off in the best way. I plan to spend any free-time with my goddaughter (Skylar-4 months) so I can show her how to ride around and get it too!
currently in the works building a graphic design/web development freelancing
gig.. something i’ve always been afraid to do.. afraid of not being successful.. this year its NO holding back. also.. entering my second semester of grad school[comp sci]. thanks and congratulations ladies, you truly inspire. #ridingaroundandgettinit
This year is MY year! It started with going natural (hair); I started transitioning in Dec 2011 & I BC’d in June 2012. Now it’s time to change my body, I been working out & meal planning snd I’m down 5 lbs so far, my goal is 80 lbs. total by the end of the year. I sm on my money savings grind, making sure to put away $20 a week to start and adding one dollar a week to the $20; one day I plan to retire & I refuse to do so broke!
The 1st day of 2013 didn’t look so bright but I am determined to put personal issues aside to do sone things I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve wanted a tshirt line since I was young and I am sketching some things, my sisters and I are working on movement and magazine that is about purpose, and I’ve decided to be FREE in 2013. My theme is FREE because I feel like I have lived the way others wanted me to live. So I am officially FREE from people and focusing on me for once. That’s my 2013! #operationhappyme
This year i will be graduating high school and making a name for myself, i wanna get into the travel and tourism business so i wanna meet more people who are in that type of field but i also want to network with other people.
Also a NYC/Brooklyn chick, I am grinding hard and sacrificing greatly to build my small business into something great. I make handmade accessories. I hope to BLOW UP one day!

For 2013, I’m drilling my health. I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (or PCOS), my sophomore year of high school and the result is taking medication for the rest of my life pretty much! Now that I am a freshly graduated high school student and the college status is running slow, I decided to focus on other issues like my health. I’m working on exercising weekly and eating more foods that are good for my body rather than bad. Now them hot chips may call and I might give in, but Rome wasn’t built in a day and I’m not gonna beat myself up for it… cause that only leads to more hot chips lol.
After losing 25lbs in 2012, 2013 is the year I will reach my weightloss goal of losing a total loss of 62lbs by continuing to exercise and “clean” up my diet for a lifesytle changes!
go girl
I’ve finally gone back to school so I can get the career I’ve always wanted.
As a single mom to a seven year old son . I work full time as a surgical tech while finishing my degree in biology and public health. I am in school 5 days a week and have made the last two consecutive deans lists at my university . In 2013 I’m graduating !!! I plan on applying to various med schools. The hustle is real but I thank God through it all !!! Good luck to everyone and God bless in 2013 !!!!
This year I finally decided to go ahead and major in theatre. I struggled and struggled with it for a while and finally said, ” Girl just DO it. Sheesh.” I’m learning that if you go to the places that are out of your comfort zone, you’ll find God, and you can’t do any better than that. God bless!
yayyyyy! Leave it all on the stage!
Hi ladies! I have been going to school for the past 4 years and I have been working my behind off to stay on track. I am soon finish with school and I can not wait until I get out in the world and make my make.
After taking an unplanned WHOLE year off of school I had to get back in somewhere. So I did my research and have applied and been accepted into a college (yayy me) and I start Wednesday. Along with getting back in school, I have been doing a 30 day work out challenge! Gotta get summertime fine!! Haha. So basically, 2013 is the year for me to get my education and healthy lifestyle back on track.
My goals this year: first to look for good natural hair care products for my healthy hair journey as well as for my face! Besides beauty, I plan to widen out in my friendship and planning a trip to South America late this year (first goal – pay off the credit card!)
2013 is my year! Late last year I attended a career development workshop and wrote down 3 objectives for 2013. The facilitator mailed my goal list to me and I’m happy to say, I’m on track to meet all 3 goals by the end of the first quarter. One objective was to improve my exposure and get in front of the decision makers and senior leadership. I accomplished that by demonstrating my own leadership skills and as a result, will be working on some new projects. Aside from my day job, I also sell candles for extra income. I plan to step my game up by attending events/flea markets as a vendor in order to take my home business to the next level. This is way out of my comfort zone and could be risky financially as I will be required to pay a fee as a vendor but one thing all successful people have in common is that they are risk takers. This is my year and I’m ready to receive all the positive things coming my way!
I just started a new job this year [two weeks ago] as a full time Assistant Manager in one of the most popular female fashion retail stores. I’ve been accepted and will be enrolling in an online Master’s degree program this Spring studying Professional Counseling.
Heeeey Curlfriends!! I really feel like 2013 is MY year. Finally got my ends back in school (Nursing School)..been putting it off for so long, mainly because I thought I didn’t have the time. I’m a working mother of three. Let me break that down for you.. 6 year old, 3 year old, and my 18 month old. I work the Night shift at the hospital so Hubby and I don’t have to pay for daycare. So essentially, I AM daycare lol. I survive on naps, and do homework on my days off. As tired as I am, I still want my children to be proud of their Mommy. More importantly, I’m doin what I gotta do for ME. In my spare “time”, my sister and I do a fair amount of baking, we’re quite the duo, so much so that we do orders from time to time. I like to think of our ‘business’ as a side hustle, lol. I don’t think I’ve ever worked this hard in my life, but I’ve also never felt this determined either. Wish me luck!
super woman for real. my mother did the same thing… night shift so she could be home with my sister and i. my hat is off to you
This year I am reclaiming my life and taking control of my personal journey. I am currently in school pursuing my MBA, began working at home for an international travel company and started my own online boutique. 2012 was a year of major changes for. I had time to reflect and realize what I wanted and how I needed my life to be. I am making it my business to make 2013 MY year. The only person in my way is me!
This year I am striving to be a better teacher to my students, and an even better mother to my son. Being the best me is how I plan to take 2013 by storm!
In 2013 I am working a full time job with adults with disabilities. Also holding down a partime job at a grocery store. I am also working on getting my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Hustling hard and working hard. On top of it all I’m working hard towards my natural hair length goal
I’m a college student, graduating next semester with a degree in Graphic Design. I am a founder of a multicultural sorority at my school that promotes empowerment of all women. I’ve just started my internship too! So I’m maintaining all my hustles, focusing more on myself and my dreams this year. I’ve gotten rid of alot of baggage especially a emotionally/physically abusive relationship. So 2013 is about change and positivity for me!
My goal is to start saving (more) money to put a down payment on a house, get back in school so I can finish out my degree in musical therapy, get at least 2 consultations done for sisterlocks, and get into a management position: ALL BEFORE MY 21ST BIRTHDAY IN AUGUST! I have too much I want to do in life and now is my chance to step through and grab every bit of opportunity I possibly can.
Hey Ladies! I’m definitely on my grind for 2013! I got accepted into an awesome Global M.A. program where I will travel to 5 different countries while obtaining my degree. I will also be pursuing an awesome fellowship for myself directly following the M.A. program. Also, I am on a health journey to be in the best health of my life, I’m finally taking control and responsibility for my choices. 2013 is the first year of the rest of my life
I’m doing a 50 day Paleo Diet challenge. This means no sugar, dairy, grains, beans or starchy root vegetables. I’m doing this in conjunction with CrossFit. I went from 2 days a week to 3 days a week! For the mental and spiritual aspect, I’m doing a 90 day meditation challenge. This could mean meditating in the traditional sense or creating art, listening to music, or writing out affirmations. This year I’m stepping into my power and becoming the goddess I was born to be!
Wrapping up my PhD proposal before the start of Summer and getting things in order for a May 2014 graduation. I am also trying to take better care of myself in preparation for motherhood!
I’m making my 2013 a better year by working the commercial cleaning business I started with my husband. I started Im Just Jackie on the social media sites to help encourage and inform other naturals. I continue to take care of my family and I participating in more natural hair events / meet ups
Hey ladies! Well, after leaving my hometown of Queens, NYC to move to Philly and pursue a PhD in educational psychology, I have no choice but to bring it while I’m here! This year I’ve applied to two conferences to present my research on the benefits of diversity to academic achievement in American schools. I’ve received acceptance to both, now it’s just a matter of funding my trips (both outside of Philadelphia; one in Seattle the other in San Francisco). Going to hustle hard between now and then to be able to go. Also, I have been making a greater effort to eat clean and exercise every day. It’s my own little therapy and escape from all the studying and research I have to do. So far I’ve been doing really well at it by writing it down in my planner daily so I know it’s at the top of my list.
As a side note. I am SO happy to see how far Karen’s Body Beautiful has come! 2003?! Has it been that long already?!
I just completed training to become a natural hair stylist. I’m ready to quit my job and get on some heads!
In 2013 I am keeping it “real” natural and encouraging my naturalista’s and potential naturals by giving positive feedback and encouragement to keep going and not be discouraged by society or nay sayers. I want to let people know that it’s not a “fad” it’s a new way of life. I hope to start doing You Tube videos and further encouraging all curlies. I love the Around the Way Curls site and your “realness”. Keep doing what you do!
This year I am committed to GETTING COMFORTABLE WITH BEING UNCOMFORTABLE. nothing worth having comes without hardwork and dedication. I am dedicated to getting back in touch with my Caribbean roots. I am current a junior in undergraduate studies and I have always wanted to get involved in both women’s studies and Caribbean cultural studies at my university but never found the time to do it. This is year I am making it my priority. It’s time to GET IT!
I’m going HAM this year on becoming a better ME! The first step is a healthy body and mind through better nutrition and exercise. Second, is to nurture relationships, past and present that I feel I have neglected. Be it with a phone call or a hand-written note, I intend to reach out to some folks and meet some new ones along the way.
I am a 2nd year law student at UCLA and have been riding around and getting all semester for 2013. Every morning I wake up at 6am. Catch the bus to school (a girl is riding around and getting it on a budget this year) to make it there by 8am when the library opens. I get all of my readings done before class, head to class, any meetings I have for the day, and then hit the library some more to study. I might not be graduating until 2014, but I will be getting good grades in 2013.
Karen is an inspiration to many in the natural community, and I would love the opportunity to have her products. My goal for 2013, is to take back everything that the devil thougt he took from me, and I know with God it will, and shall be possible.
I am currently applying for MD/PhD admissions. About a year ago, I let fear of not gaining acceptance lead me down a path away from medical school. I watched other people live the life I knew I wanted but was to afraid to try. Obviously, fear blocks the blessings. So, it took some shaking up of my life for God to get my attention. By the grace of God, I have three interviews this year!!! I plan on opening a women’s and children’s clinic that will aid our community. My clinic will also have an outreach program that helps facilitate diversity through educational support, etiquette courses, and team building courses, etc. I strongly believe that education can not serve its purpose without the necessary emotional and social maturity to have fruitful interactions with others. This clinic will promote the holistic heath of the community it serves. My acceptance into an MD/PhD program is just the tip of the iceberg!!#LiveOnPurpose2013
health*** SN:Got too excited when typing this.

2013 is going to be an EPIC year, the motto for my church back at home. I am currently in my junior year of civil engineering at Howard University, but I have been studying abroad in London since September. So far this year has been a struggle. A struggle when it comes to money, motivation, and overall just being happy about life, but I am not going to be defeated. I am going to finish my junior year with a bang and enjoy as much of London as I can. I want to be happy for me
This year I’m focusing on being more outgoing, getting work experience for the first time before I decide to commit to school, doing things that scare me and being a more healthy/confident/sexy ME! Was depressed last year, but thanks to therapy, self motivation and great people surrounding me I plan on making 2013 my BEST year yet! Thank you guys for this giveaway & good luck to all!

I just started yoga again. I was already eating clean. The part of this year that will be best for me will be completing the last two classes of my CASAC courses (to become a drug and alcohol abuse counselor)and starting my internship. I am also excited to be taking a trip later this year to see my family in the Bahamas and Cuba. Even though it’s a annual trip, I am always so happy to see them.
This year has started off great but I’ve hit a bit of a rough patch. I FINALLY got a great job after being on the hunt all year long! I became the queen of making EVERY dollar STRREEETCCCCHHHH. lol. Im getting my body back on track and Im more focused than ever on my music and achieving what I KNOW God put me on this planet to do. For a long time, I didn’t think I was worthy of calling myself a singer or was so afraid of failing but Im finally getting more and more aligned and in tune with myself to know that there is nothing to be afraid of because God and the Universe would not set you up for failure and my gift wasn’t given to be wasted. My rough patch came with school -______- The money for my tuition this semester seems completely impossible to get and I don’t know how Im going to reregister since classes are all filled. But Im really trying to stay positive and trusting that all will work itself out the way it is supposed to. So to sum up, Im gonna ride around and get it with my spirituality, faith in my God and my SELF, and keep working my ass off! lol. Peace and Love girls!
This year I am learning to love me for the things I cant change and getting it crackin on the things I can.

In order to make 2013 the best year ever I have committed to retiring from the military after 23 years, completing my MBA, starting a non-profit and making my health a number one priority by hiring a personal trainer with a few of my girlfriends. I am also six months into my transition and although I haven’t found the right products for my hair I’m committed to becoming the master of my crown of glory!
This year in graduating college with my associates
Degree, which is a huge accomplishment since i’m 21 with a 20 month old daughter.. But this year i’m stepping out on faith & putting my fears of rejection & failure behind me..

I am definitely ridin around and gettin it in 2013. For starters, I joined a church (i’ve been goin there for a while but im finally becoming a member) and I’m actually getting baptized this Sunday, which is also Super Bowl Sunday so that’s gonna be an all around great day! I want to get closer to God and get more involved with the church, so im taking the necessary steps to do so..
I also have a new job! I graduated from college in May of last year and I FINALLY got my first big career break. I wanna be a journalist and I just landed a gig working for one of the big news stations. It’s an entry level position, but I plan to work my way to the top and get #stacks on #stacks on #stacks as Shanti likes to say lol…2013 really is my year!!
Around The Way Curls in the house…You BETTA watch YO mouth! (In my Marin voice)!!! Lol
I am a 20 year old part-time working, full-time college woman who is constantly grinding, discovering, and finding myself in this world. God has blessed me to overcome many obstacles at a very young age, and I refuse to let my past overtake my present, and put a hold on my future. 2013 is a year of success and many great blessings including my graduation with my Associates Degree and receiving my CPR certification. I have been Natural for a year and a half now and I love rocking every second of my crown God has blessed me with!!!!
This year I’m going more global with my event planning business, concentrating on my health,my hair’s wellness and building my blog to be something I love. This is the year of self branding for me!
In 2013, I plan to work on myself in order to have the life I deserve. This includes things like not being so hard on myself, meditation, visualization, and positive affirmations. I believe you have to work from the inside out in order to manifest your dreams. I’m celebrating 2013 by feeling, seeing, knowing and owning it. This is MY year!
I launched an accessories website in 2012 and in 2013 I’m determined to see it turn a real profit and pay for itself. Full time working and part time hustling is hard but no one will fight for my dream if I don’t! Riding ‘round these internet streets and GETTING IT!!!
This is the year of new beginnings. I went natural for 2013 and I’m loving it. On top of that I’m concentrating on improving me, my body and inner being. #idome
To start 2013, I wrote my list of goals and I’m gonna hit all of them! Starting grad school, hitting the gym, joining a church and organization and finding a mentor!!
started off this year with a new position at my job and starting my third semster as a transfer student at a university. I plan on saving more money to buy my first car. getting better grades so i can go on to grad school and just living life with my family and friends.
I’m definitely on my “ridin around and gettin it” grind right now. Lord willing, I will be done with graduate school in May and I will have an MBA! Next step is getting that good ‘ol J.O.B.
I’m pretty excited to see what 2013 has in store for me. Thanks for the giveaway!
This year I am trying to become more involved in clubs and activities at the high school I work at. I want to do more for my students
This year I want to bring up my GPA and become and take more leadership in organizations I’m involved with on campus.
In the year of 2013, I am about hustling hard this year, that is this year’s motto. I am planning to make my current business The “B” Hive bigger and make it known around my college campus and my community. I also want to introduce new products and new entities like my new partnership called Brag About It Styles. We dress you for different events, fashion shows, do closet check ups and personal shopping! I plan to be HOT by age 23! I’m almost there, I’m lukewarm at 19! lol Check me out thebhiveco.bigcartel.com
This year I am resigning from my job to become a full time student and FINALLY finish my Bachelors Degree in Non Profit Leadership and Management. I also started a vegan cookie business and my cookies are currently carried in a gourmet store.
“It’s all happening!” (film: Almost Famous) =)
Usually, my focus for any year is how much I can get away from it all. My number one goal in life is to travel to as many places in the world I possibly can. However, this year I choose a separate focus in my life. I am ready to get married and move on in my personal life. I have a man I’ve been with for over 10 years who just wants to love me, but being a modern woman, my independence gets in the way. So, instead of focusing on myself this year and what I want, I am focusing on taking my relationship to another level. Love needs work. I can always travel, but I can’t always find someone else like him!
This year I am going Honey Glazed HAM! Not just at work, but at the gym. Next may I am getting married and right now we are saving for a place to live and wedding expenses. Also I need to look absolutely FAB in my dress. So I am hitting up the gym. There are a few other things I am working on too such as my driver’s license. Just little things that I would like to have before I am married.
This year will mark the time in my life where everything matters in order to better my future, and my sons future. I’m currently in nursing school full time, my husband is in med school full time, and our son just turned 1 January 9th. We have 0 family support and basically live off of what we can. And between school and raising a kid and trying to work life is rough! But this is the year I put my all into everything i come into contact with! So I’m definitely #ridenroundandgettinit
This year I decided to create my opportunities instead of waiting for them. I am independently producing shows that I am excited about and look forward to growing my brand!
I am going to go ham this year by getting back in the workforce, get back on my meds (don’t laugh, I’m serious) and take my life back! Been down for way too long. Nisha Robinson, utternappyness@gmail.com
2013 is the year of health for me. I am finally addressing some health issues that were neglected or that I just plain couldn’t do anything about before now. A healthier me means better, mom, student, professional.
This year I will move further along in my business, and on the side of that get a new job that pays more. I am guaranteed entry for the 2013 NYC ING marathon and will run that along with the Brooklyn Half Marathon and possibly to Spartan races (intense obstacle courses and running combined).
Oh lord… well this is a very new year from the start of 2012… I moved 5000 miles away from home. I have a new full-time boyfriend, a new full-time jewelry business and lot of fears to wash away. Good luck to us all!
Hello my name is Farah Severin. Upon seeing the posting for this contest, I knew I had to enter it. I admire Karen because of her passion and dedication to providing quality products to her consumers (KBB Butter Love is one of my favorite products to use). I decided to transition back to my natural hair August of 2011 and cut the remaining relaxed ends last June. I felt a renewed sense of self and decided to use my accessories to highlight my natural hair.
Towards the end of the summer I decided to create my own earrings because I wanted to express my vision and share it with other women. I started my etsy shop, Kreyol Soul Pieces, this past September, and I’m proud of the progress I’ve made so far. I chose the name Kreyol Soul Pieces as an homage to my Haitian heritage. I wear my pieces proudly every day and use the shop as a platform to share my for Africa and my fondness for the Adinkra symbols of West Africa.
This new endeavor has afforded me the opportunity to meet new people and network. As well as push myself outside of my comfort zone and try new things.
I’ve saw Karen at a natural hair event last year and she looked so poised and graceful. Manybof the women around me were ao excited to meet and speak with her. My goal is to spread my passion with as many people as possible.
Karen’s business and those of many other women color have shown me that anything is indeed possible with belief, determination, and hard work.

I am hustling and grinding the hardest I ever have in my life. I recently quit my job of 6 years, moved to a different state with my husband and 2 stepkids, and am enrolled in college for social work. I am taking 18 credit hours and have been going to school year round so I can graduate in a year.
This year, I am looking to finally starting a side-hustle business that I manange and set goals for. Second, get on a regular FUN exercise program.
I’m trying to grind it out and get closer to getting my degree in 2013! The Lord also gave me some instructions for this year so I need to get it cracking. Having go to products at my fingertips would be awesome!
I have made the choice to return to school and finish my BS and also kickstart this year by becoming healthier.
I am a newlywed, so we are trying to prepare for our move in our first home! I also am going to be going to be going tobe working full time and go to school for pharmacy tech, ive always liked it, but am not putting it off any longer. A new life, home and new career. It’s alot to juggle, but i am determined to not give up, because i believe in me, so does Jah and my best friend and hubby. I am at a happy place in my life now.
This year I am bound and determined to reach my goals and I will not let anything stand in my way. I am determined to get the job, hair , and body that I want!
i am hustling studying for LSAT and trying to get into Law School. I am so motivated it is ridiculous. NOTHING can stand in my way; I am on a mission! I have overcome too much to be held back anything or anyone.
For 2013 I want to be more positive and optimistic…short and to the point but it’s true.
I’m hoping I can get in more exercises…trying to make some things happen this year
This year, I’m working on becoming a personal chef with an emphasis on healthy cooking, as well as losing the last 39 pounds to achieve a weight that is healthy for my body.
This year I’m grinding to finished my MBA so I’m learning to walk by faith & not by sight which is first. Then I’ll see where God take me from there.
PS:
I’m really happy to see Karen products head to such a large market, because I use her products & sometime I forget to stock up and now I can go to my local target to get the products that I’m missing, great news for procrastinators like myself:-)

2012 was a big year for me with starting my very small business, I intend to expand that this year and continuing to pursue my path and do what makes me happy. This is also the year to take my body to a whole new level. I feel better than I have at any other age and want to do more obstacle/strength races this year. My goal is the Spartan Race so I will be increasing my strength and making the best me I have ever made. Not only for 2013 but for all of my years to come. I need to be here to fulfill all of these goals and dreams.
Best of luck and congrats on your success, Karen! I’ve always been a fan of these awesome products.

2013 I’m going ham by starting a new career back in my home time, trying to get back on my feet from one of my worst years all the while transitioning. Yea!! This is great news for me because I finally landed what I hope to be my dream career. It’ll be a year of transitioning to natural hair for me in April 2013. I plan to do the BC in April, probably April 1st because I can’t wait. Some days I think going natural is the best decision I could have made but then some days (like today with this 10 degree weather) I feel as if this hair is taking on a life of it’s own. I’m struggling with my own life so trying to manage this hair life is quite trying. I’m still in the “let’s find what product works great for my hair” phase so your give away would be quite nice. Congratulations on being in Target stores!! Sky is the limit for all of us so let’s get it!!
Right now I am working as a teacher at a private school but will be switching industries shortly. I am currently working on starting my own event planning and consultation business. I am currently networking with various venues and building my clientele. I am looking forward to embarking on my new career and this is why 2013 will be my year.
I love KBB because if the natural products. I can read all the ingredients.
I’ve decided to go back to school to be a social worker. I thought about it before and went through all the paper work and was pretty much accepted. And one excuses turned into two and so on. I’m needing to do this now that my situation is better.
For me I am really just trying to learn how to properly take care of my hair the right way. I want to learn how to use different products on my hair so my hair can feel like butta in my hands.LOL
I am 8 months strong into my transition and so excited to do my big chop. I have just recently decided to use up my stash before I buy anything else but I do love your leave in and hydrating butter. Please consider me in this giveaway. Thank you
Hi There,
Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity. Karen’s Body Beautiful products are Da’bomb! This year I am really working to improve myself spiritually and physically. I plan to consistently workout (at least 3 times per week), eat better, and I ultimately lose 50lbs. I’ve already lost 9lbs and I know that I can shed the weight. I am also hoping to get an extra 6-8 inches of hair growth through the use of Coconut Oil, Rosemary Oil, Avocado Oil, and biotin.
Have a wonderful day!!!
This year I am being proactive with my health, pushing my doctors to do more than the norm, because I need to be healthy, so that I can get on with my life.
I’m in college and this is the most crucial semester for me. I’m studying to be a journalist and my capstone is extremely competitive. If I don’t do well and succeed in this class there is no way I can successfully get to my goals in life. The class is extremely competitive and even though I’m friends with most of my class I have to go out and beat all of them to get my dream job. I’m scared but willingly to do whatever it takes. Graduation is around the corner so I hope I can make it.
This year moved back to my home state, finishing my Masters, gonna get my license (yeah I know), raise my 2 sons, cater to the husband, and take over my world.

I plan to make this my year by continuing to study so I can pass my boards. I am a stay at home mom and although I find it difficult to study with constant noise and interruptions I’m not letting that stop me because I need to do this to provide for my family. I have chosen not to let those things which are excuses take over and press to accomplish this this year.
Loe you both! this year I am fearlessly working to close the digital divide and against all the unbelievers went to my hood and created an overnight Tech Bash for Teens where the youth left at 6am having built basic apps, webpages and understanding how to collaborate and create. I am going to inspire and create opportunities that give our youth life and stop the streets from taking it. Give thanks
Started this year off with the Daniel’s fast and God in the forefront! I am 23 and will be done with my M.S in Environmental Science and Policy this year! I am going to school full time, interning full time at the National Science Foundation, and planning my wedding! In addition to this I am a active member of my sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and a member of our Science in Everyday Education (SEE)Committee. This program is to encourage girls of color 11-14 years old to pursue science and expand their knowledge base while having fun. Shout out to all my women scientists! As I grind and work hard I feel it is important to bless others as well! I decided this year to be more open minded about places of work and more of a risk-taker as long as it helps me reach closer to my dreams. Im excited about this year and the years to come! You are are such a inspiration Karen!
I love KBB!!! On that last Monday on Myrtle Ave, I went with my Aunt trying to make history and say we went to KBB on the last day there. But it was closed and we had lunch at Peaches instead…tears!!!!
Anywhooo….I worked for a wonderful company for 8 years now…finished college…and now I want to make a big career move…from corporate to medical…more school…more loans…but a better and happier me!!! I’m gonna take the help and hold the faith, that I’m making the right decision!
I’m going to finally drop this weight and transition from emotional eating to a clean eating lifestyle. I just started on Monday of this week. However, I’m changing for life!
2013 is the year I finally put me on the list. I have 4 children and have been married for almost 12 years. This is the year I finally get my body back! I’ve already made changes in lifestyle and have lost a small amoubt of weight. I homeschool my children so that means I have devoted my years to that but this year along with still doing that I am going back to school to become a sign language interpreter. It’s going to be a long process because I can’t go full time. My motivation is something I read recently. “This time next year you’ll wish you had started today”. So I’m starting today!
KBB products are amazing! They always leave my hair feeling very soft & moisturized. This year I plan to get in shape & stay in shape by keeping up with my exercise routine and eating healthily.
My goal for 2013 is to lose weight which I gained during pregnancy. I am so shapeless
I cannot see myself like that. Hopefully when weather will change a little I will start going to gym. Another goal is to meet my family(mom, bro, sis) in summer.
Hopefully I will do it.
I have stepped out on faith and dedicated the 2nd saturday of every month to feeding and clothing the homeless im truly riding around and getting it all of my blessing and returning them by blessing others homelessness comes in all shapes sizes and colors yoh can never judge a book by its cover because you never know its inside story….bankston93@msn.com

I have already started by journey. I plan on kicking my wrkouts into high gear. I participated in my first 5k a month ago and I want to do 2 more and start training for a 10k. I am doing this with a good friend of mine so that I can be held accountable. I plan on losing 35lbs and getting into great shape.
My hustle this year is on a whole different level. I have just a busy year and productivity is key. I’m making my first out of state move, losing weight so that I can reverse my diabetes, and biggest of all, I’m starting a book franchise centered around both fantasy and reality in my personal life. Books based on people like me who look and act out of the norm and overcome obsticles in different areas of life. I’m in the process of writing the first book and I am hoping and praying for a great reception when it finally hits the stores. This year is MY year and I will be taking care of ME. I’ve been natural for years but have never really taken care of my hair, so that will be a priority this year. I have put myself last for too long and now it is time for me to break out and become what I really want to be and that is my own person who can set and realize the goals I set for myself. This year is still just beginning for me and it will NOT go to waste. I have the inspiration, the motivation and the desire to make this year more than just a good one. Let the game begin!
Hey Ladies! For 2013 I’m taking charge of my life by only doing what “I Want To” and not what others think is best for me. I guess it sounds easy but it has always been hard for me to do. I’ve always done everything “the right way” instead of “my way”. It’s such a power feeling. And I’m also going to count it all joy. My life might not be exactly what I want it to be but I know with hard work and a positive attitude God will lead me to where I need to be.
This year I’m exploring my natural state of hair (and would LOVE to try KBB products) and graduating from college May 2013!! Thats how I’m “ridin around an gettin it”
I’m working on spending more time with my family, eating healthier, and losing weight.

This year, I’m working full-time, going to school half-time studying information management, coordinating weekly runs in my community, learning to swim, and training for my first triathlon and blogging about it. I’m sure that I can do more though…and I will

A powerful share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing a bit analysis on this. And he in fact purchased me breakfast because I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the deal with! However yeah Thnkx for spending the time to debate this, I feel strongly about it and love reading extra on this topic. If possible, as you develop into experience, would you mind updating your blog with extra details? It is highly useful for me. Large thumb up for this blog post!

I liked both pages and my vision for 2013, is to fulfill my dream of becoming an optometrist and opening up
a private practice in underprivileged neighborhoods. Its taking more time than i would like but by the grace of God everything will fall into place. Thank you for this giveaway.
I love Karen Body’s Beautiful because it makes my hair do things that I love. My hair is bouncy and I feels really good.

This year I’m looking forward to getting out more…getting better grades in school and volunteering more
In this great year of 2013 I am back in school studying biology and working towards getting in medical school to become a dermatologist! I’m also starting a new job next week and I’m excited about everything life has to offer me this year and beyond!
I am going to be more bold in my actions on the job, allowing my opinion of myself to shine, and give clear times as to when I expect a return on my effort. I also have a renewed focus on my health and mental well-being.
This year I plan on leading a healthier lifestyle in order to be a better example for my daughters. Karens Body Beautiful products will provide me with the natural ingredients I am looking for, as well as keeping me and my daughters hair moisturized!
2013 is the fear of fearless of myself. I plan on taking a leap of faith and hoping that I grow wings on the way down. I have always been natural but I was always unsure of how I would be perceived if I wore my natural hair so heat was my secret weapon. I started my year of the fearless by putting my blow dryer and flat iron away. I continue to inspire and encourage all women that I come in contact with to love their hair and themselves. My next goal on the path of greatness is to move away from the state I’ve called home for my entire life. I have always envisioned myself traveling to other places and immersing myself in culture. I have purchased a passport and plan on spending it filling it with stamps from all over the world.
Im am working two jobs, juggling 2 kids and saving for a house ,hopefully in July, and fighting my pjism;) KBB products is the Truth!
I’m going to finish what I started! Ugh I need to finish tasks for a change like finishing some songs in my song book and writing my book about loss, pain, and women’s issues and regaining the reigns in your life.
I follow you both on facebook. I go to school and work and I blog so its hard work for me and I manage to somehow do it all and keep my commitments.
This year I will get my law degree! I’m in my last year and it’s hell! But I’m keeping focused on my future and the great things I hope to achieve
My motto for 2013 is I CHOOSE ME!!! I spent so much time looking out for others that I was sacrificing self. So, I started a lifestyle change towards the end of 2012 so my focus is to be in the best health, mind body & spirit. Clearly it will take more than a year to get to my target weight but I have set small goals along the way. Currently my natural hair is bra strap length so my hair goal is incorporating more protective styling and just maintain my weekly regimen. I am applying to Grad school for an MFA so prayerfully, I will be accepted for admission. Lastly, I want to grow my business, http://www.ChoklatTea.etsy.com, grow my blog & build more subscribers, http://www.natalieceleste.blogspot.com, write & record my music and successfully execute social events planned and those to come.
This year in December I’ll graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in Business & Communication all along with a minor in Spanish…at only age 21!!! I’m currently interning with Microsoft as a student representative. I’m not making any excuses this year because time waits on no one. Not to mention I’m currently working a regular job as well and actively looking for something bigger and better. I also hope to land a summer internship with a PR firm as well as head to Europe in May.
Thanks for this awesome giveaway ladies!!!!
This year, i want to stop being lazy and really take care of my hair LOL.
Transforming myself. Transcending boundaries. Overcoming fears. Stepping out of my comfort zone.
I think Karen Tappin is a wonderful role model for black women, and women in general. I love how she created an idea and pursued it passionately. I’m 19 and currently in college, and I look up to this woman and give her total respect for what she has done to improve her life, and the well-being of others (especially my hair! lol). My goal for this year is to complete my first semester of college successfully with at least a 3.0 GPA. I’m improving my health my eating right and waking up at 5 AM each morning and working my butt off at the gym before class/work everyday. I’m also caring for my hair and using natural products to achieve natural beauty without full makeup, hair extensions, etc., and KBB products help TREMENDOUSLY with that. And overall, becoming a better person, building my confidence, and trying to find out who I am are my top priorities in making 2013 my best year yet.
Thank-You
